Bec McConnell’s First World Cup Win!
6 May 2022
The first update for 2022 has arrived a little late but I’m still so excited to share the news that on Sunday the 10th of April I took my first World Cup Win!!
Held in Petrópolis, Brazil in front of over 35,000 spectators we had the most amazing week. It’s the first time joining up with the team this year and what a way to start the season. I was 4th in the Short Track, and a WIN in the XCO Race leaving Brazil with the World Cup Leaders jersey and on Tuesday climbing to the top of the UCI World Rankings. This is my first time reaching World #1.
The Aussie summer had gone smoothly where I started the season racing domestically in January and defended both the Australian National Championships as well as the Oceania Continental Championships just two weeks before Brazil.
With the World Cup starting over a month earlier than usual and many changes during the off season for me personally, as a team we went from feeling relieved that my shape was in the ballpark to absolutely lost for words taking the win!
This truly has been a huge effort by everyone involved, from the entire PMG Racing team staff and riders, to our sponsors and to my incredibly strong support network I have both at home and on the road. To share this achievement means the world to me!
It’s only the first major goal of the season and while we are taking the time to enjoy this moment we have worked so hard for, there is a long season ahead and we will continue to work hard and prepare as always and look forward to keeping you updated along the way!
The next races coming up are the Super Massi Cup in Santa Susanna (24th April) and then onto World Cup’s 2 & 3 in Albstadt, Germany and Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic (6 – 8 May & 13 – 15 May). Live on Redbull TV all season and the Brazil Replay and highlights.
Thank you as always for the wonderful support!
