How hard is the transition from track to road?

Matthijs Büchli is a Dutch road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Track Team BEAT Cycling. He became world champion in the keirin at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. In 2021 Matthijs decided to make the jump from Track Cycling to Road Cycling, here is his story.

In this in depth documentary, Matthijs Büchli was followed for a year during his daring transition from the track to the road. He exchanged almost guaranteed world titles for an uncertain existence in a strong peloton.

After a successful premiere, the documentary has already been viewed 100,000 times via Ziggo Sport.

It wasn’t a smooth start for Matthijs and he found transitioning from track to road is not easy and it takes time. Büchli started the year with races in Mallorca. “I seriously got cramps after 5 minutes during the first race. It went so incredibly fast. Then I thought about where I started. After that it got better.”
